Dear Parents,

Welcome to WCA! I hope you are having a great summer! This web page is a great resource for helping your student stay on track in Middle School at WCA.
• You will find a link here to the teachers’ personal web pages where you can keep up with everything going on in the classroom.

• You will also find a link here to INFO DIRECT, which is your best resource for staying on top of grades, homework, due dates, etc.
• For the summer you will find a reading list, links to educational sites, a school supply list, extra credit activities, and other pertinent information.

Supply List
• Agendas and PE Uniforms must be purchased in the school office
• The Athletic department will be selling “supply packs” to raise money for athletics as well as to help you get the right supplies without all the running around
1 Bible with concordance (or a pocket concordance – available at the Truth Shop)
1 zippered cloth pencil case to hold the following items:
No 2 pencils or mechanical pencils with 0.7 lead)
1 grading pen (green or red)
1 highlighter
1 pencil sharpener
1 12-count box of colored pencils
1 eraser
1 12-inch metric ruler
1 protractor
1 pair of scissors
1 large glue stick
1 package of graph paper
3 journal/composition/spiral notebooks
college ruled loose leaf paper (replenished as needed)
1 2-inch 3-ring binder
2 packages of 2-pocket plastic binder dividers
1 small collegiate dictionary
1 Spanish/English dictionary
Assorted folders, poster board, index cards, etc as requested throughout the year

Extra Credit Activities
Start the school year off right with an extra credit grade or two. Choose up to 3 of the following activities to do this summer. Complete it and turn it in on the first day of school 8/20/07 to Mrs. Amato.

1) “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” – Make a collage of your summer activities.
• Use ¼ sheet of poster board
• Make a 1 inch margin around the edge
• Cover the whole center with pictures of things you did and saw this summer
• Glue 10 pieces of information on top of the pictures (things like where you went, how long it took, what you saw, etc)
• Choose a Scripture that God brought to your mind this summer and write the Scripture and the reference all around the border in that margin
• On the back write a good 7 to 10 sentence paragraph telling me what God did in your life this summer. (Use your best grammar, spelling, etc)
2) “Imagination, Take Me Away!” – Reading Challenge
• Choose one of the books from the Reading List and complete one of the following activities for it
a. Book Jacket Report –
Front cover – picture, Title, Author, and your name
Back cover – 7 to 10 sentence paragraph book review – Did you like it? Why or why not? Would you recommend it? Why or why not? Use specific ideas from the book.
Inside front cover – Summary – 7 to 10 sentence summary of the plot but don’t reveal the ending
Inside Back Cover – Character Sketch – 7 to 10 sentence description of one of your favorite characters. Make sure you tell me why he/she was important and if he/she honored God with his/her choices.
b. Video Commercial –
Music that fits the story
Actions that summarize the story
A Catchy Slogan that convinces me I should read the book
c. Letter to the Editor –
Use correct letter format
Tell me about the book and why I should read it or not
Give specific examples from the story
Tell me if the message in the book is a God-honoring message or not and use a Scripture to explain.
3) Star Gazing
• Spend some time looking at the stars.
• Journal what you see each night for a month
• Draw and label at least 3 constellations that you can identify
• Describe how you could use each constellation to tell someone about God’s plan of salvation
4) Collection – Make a collection of shells, flowers, insects, etc – anything interesting you find this summer
• Collect at least 5 different things
• Mount your collection in some creative way
• Identify each item and write 5 facts about it
• Choose a Scripture that you think shows why God created those items and tell me why you chose it.
Class Work/ Homework

 Partner with us by:
• Encouraging your child to write in his/her agenda
• Providing a quiet place for homework and study
• Making your student responsible for doing assignments correctly and turning them in on time
• Checking Info Direct weekly
• Replenishing school supplies such as paper, pencils, pens, etc
• Spending time together daily reading God’s Word and praying
Together we can help them be Champions both spiritually and academically.

• Late homework is not accepted as per our handbook. Encourage your student to keep everything in the rings of his/her binder in the proper section so that he/she can find things easily.
